Smoke Craft Stuffed Braai Burgers
Big, juicy braai burgers seasoned with BlixSam Nou Braai, stuffed with melted cheddar and sweet caramelised onion, then brushed with BlixSam Smoke Craft Sauce until sticky and smoky. Serves: 4Prep: 20 minutes
Cook: 15–20 minutes
Ingredients
Burger Patties- 800 g beef mince
- 2 tsp BlixSam Nou Braai
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 120 g cheddar cheese, cut into 4 thick pieces
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar or Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup BlixSam Smoke Craft Sauce
- 1 tbsp honey
- 4 burger buns, toasted
- Lettuce
- Tomato slices
- Mayonnaise
- Extra caramelised onion
- Sliced pickles, optional
Method
- Caramelise the onions: Melt the butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the onions and cook slowly for 10–15 minutes until soft and golden. Add the brown sugar and balsamic vinegar. Cook until sticky. Allow to cool slightly.
- Prepare the beef: Combine the mince, Nou Braai, Worcestershire sauce and black pepper. Mix gently — don’t overwork the mince.
- Stuff the burgers: Divide the mince into 8 equal portions and flatten each into a thin patty. Place cheddar and a spoonful of caramelised onion in the centre of 4 patties. Top with the remaining patties and firmly pinch the edges closed.
- Braai: Place over medium-hot coals and braai for approximately 5–6 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until nicely charred and cooked through.
- Glaze: Mix the Smoke Craft Sauce with the honey. During the final few minutes, brush generously over both sides of the burgers. Turn briefly to caramelise the sauce without burning it.
- Build: Spread mayonnaise over the toasted buns. Add lettuce and tomato, followed by the hot stuffed burger. Top with extra caramelised onion and another drizzle of Smoke Craft Sauce.
